From Wednesday 26 January 2011, Airlink will, due to normal seasonality influences, reduce its flight schedule between Johannesburg and Pemba Northern Mozambique to a single flight per week operating only on Saturdays.
The Wednesdays flights will not operate for the period 26 Jan to 30 Mar 2011. The very few passengers who had already been ticketed for the Wednesday flights have already been accommodated on alternative flights.Whilst Pemba has been experiencing increasing interest, from both local and international markets, the period ahead is a traditional low season not only due to general seasonal tourism downturn but also weather influences due to cyclones which may be experienced in the Mozambique channel at this time. Pemba is seen as an attractive alternative to Mauritius, Seychelles and Zanzibar for travellers looking for a more remote and undeveloped beach experience especially that which is to be found at its pristine off-shore Indian Ocean island resorts.
Seamless connection is of utmost importance to travellers and the timings of Airlink’s direct flights between Johannesburg and Pemba connect conveniently with South African Airways and its alliance partner’s inbound/outbound international and domestic flights.
